Veterans Day - Robinson Secondary School 2005

American Legion Post 177 Honors Staff Sergeant James W. Robinson, Jr.; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient

The James W. Robinson, Jr. Memorial was presented to the Robinson Secondary School by American Legion Post 177 on Memorial Day 2002.

On Memorial Day, 2002, American Legion Post 177 presented the James W. Robinson Memorial to the Robinson Secondary School.  Since that time, Post 177 has maintained the Memorial with fresh flowers and landscaping.  Every Memorial Day and Veterans Day Post 177 holds a memorial ceremony in honor of Staff Sergeant James W. Robinson, Jr.

From left to right: John Price, Jerry Whipple, and Bill Anderson present the colors for the memorial ceremony at Robinson Secondary School.

Staff Sergeant Robinson was the first Virginia resident to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and heroism in the Vietnam conflict.

Larry Lamborn, Post 177 Past Commander and Life Member, provided a brief speech reflecting on the contributions of Veterans during the ceremony.  Click here to read Larry's speech...

A wreath was placed before the memorial.

The ceremony began with the Color Guard marching on and a brief prayer by Chaplain Harrold Jansen from Lord of Life Congregation, Fairfax, Virginia. Principal Dan Meier provided welcome remarks followed by the wreath laying and then a brief speech by Larry Lamborn (Larry's speech).

Taps was played by Ryan Johnson at the ceremony.

The ceremony was concluded by a closing prayer and taps played by Ryan Johnson. Finally, the colors were retired.

Jim Brown and Al Doehring following the ceremony.
