2006 Four Chaplains Service

17th District Holds "Four Chaplains" Ceremony at Springfield Post 176

The Four Chaplains Memorial Service was held at Springfield Post 176 this past Sunday. The ceremony honors four Chaplains that gave their lives so others could live after the Dorchester was hit by a torpedo and sank during World War II.

Linden B. Dixon, Jr., 17th District Commander; Nancy Harting, 17th District Auxiliary President; and Mark Pearson, 17th District SAL Commander and Post 177 SAL Commander; during the "Placing of the Memorial Wreath" ceremony.

 

 

 

 

The ceremony was attended by Mark Duke, 17th District Vice Commander and Post 177 Commander; Mark Pearson, 17th District SAL Commander and Post 177 SAL Commander; and Hilda Schaeffer, Post 177 Auxiliary President; as well as spouses and others from Post 177.

Department of Virginia Commander Brett Reistad was in attendance for the ceremony and the guest speaker was Chaplain (LTC) Bryan Walker, currently serving as the Personnel Actions Officer for the Army Chief of Chaplains. Breakfast was served by Post 176 after the ceremony.
